if you want to check out the current status of tnz2 before an official alpha is released, you can do a svn checkout of https://tnz.svn.sf.net/svnroot/tnz/tnz2/trunk
to run the game you'll need:
* Python (>=2.5.1)
* Python-Ogre (1.1)

after checkout, copy cfg.dist/ to cfg, remove ogre--windows.cfg in it and adjust ogre-plugins.cfg to point to your python ogre intallation
then, run main.py with python.

downloaded everything and put in their correct directories.

but not working.

one thing i noticed is that in data/gui

downloading the 2 files there tnz.looknfeel and tnz.scheme, each prompts to overwrite the other when you're downloading.

maybe it would be good to have a screenshot of your folders with all of them open to see what goes where.
or a rar file to put them in correctly.

al this this:-- isnt so clear

"after checkout, copy cfg.dist/ to cfg, remove ogre--windows.cfg in it and adjust ogre-plugins.cfg to point to your python ogre intallation
then, run main.py with python."

i made a new folder called cfg in tnz 2 folder, and moved all cfg files there, i deleted orgre-windows.cfg, and then you said "adjust ogre-plugins.cfg, to point to your python ogre intallation,", there is no such file ogre-plugins.cfg.

did you mean to say adjust the plugins.cfg file in pythonogre/plugins directory, to read to point to your pythonogre install?

welp i got it to start initializing. but i dont have opengl installed. only directx. when i run build main.py, ogre 3d opens and asks me to select a renderer, the only option available is opengl.

if i use other python ogre samples and open them, they give me the choice of using directx...so is it a must to install opengl? i thought that by using python with the ogre engine would negate you having to code in opengl and hence requiring opengl to be installed.

when i check the log file, it cant locate tnz.scheme, which is the same file i indicated there was a problem with on the download.

this file is saving as xml and not saving as the correct file at all, also getting that error with a number of other files that one tries to download from the svn, they're saving as xml files and are not being saved with correct extensions.

ok i had to use the command prompt and rename the culprit files.

the files tnz.scheme and tnz.looknfeel were being saved as .xml

so they werent being located.

if anyone wants the alpha pre-release id be happy to rar the files to install to correct locations.

heeh cool, really early version, ways to go!

i see you have the zooming viewport problem i had when i used opengl to zoom in my game.

zoom finally did what i wanted it to, but it zoomed the whole starfield and brackground to a small viewport when you zoomed all the way out, just like happens to yours.

there's a wiki article which explains getting the svn sources in more detail and more accurately.

glad you like it Smiley

you could try making the wasd keys for movement as well.

nstead of having to put your left hand all the way across the keyboard which is awkward.

I recommend you use TortoiseSVN for downloading under Windows. Using web interface for downloading one-file-at-a-time (or using DownThemAll, doesn't matter) is rather dumb when there's TortoiseSVN available :)

agreed, or just package a compressed file for download everytime you want to update it.

So, the horrible horrible truth finally comes out, you're a freakish Dvorak user. Why can't you use an honest American layout?! :lol: I've read studies that say there are no speed benefit to Dvorak.

It looks like " ,AOE" is your "WASD".

you can develop a greater typing speed and accuracy over time, but for me the primary benefit is ergonomics, it's much easier to type on dvorak and to use all 10 fingers then on qwerty.
